When scaling is performed, calculus and plaque that attaches to the tooth surfaces is removed. The process especially targets the area below the gum line, along the root. Scaling is performed with a special dental tool called an ultrasonic scaling tool.
Root planing is performed in order to remove cementum and surface dentin that is embedded with unwanted microorganisms, toxins and tartar. The root of the tooth is smoothed, which promotes healing, and also helps prevent bacteria from easily colonizing in the future.
Periodontal maintenance is a personalized treatment plan tailored to individuals with a history of gum disease. It involves regular visits to our clinic to ensure the ongoing health of your gums and the structures supporting your teeth. Our experienced periodontal team will closely monitor your condition, provide thorough cleanings, and offer preventive measures to manage gum disease effectively.
Osseous surgery, also called flap surgery or pocket reduction surgery, is a procedure designed to treat periodontitis, a severe form of gum disease. It involves accessing the affected gum tissue and bone to remove bacteria, tartar, and diseased tissue. The underlying bone is then reshaped to eliminate irregularities and promote a healthier, more stable foundation for your teeth.
Guided tissue regeneration
Guided tissue regeneration is a specialized procedure designed to stimulate the growth of new gum tissue and bone in areas affected by periodontal disease or dental trauma. It involves the placement of a barrier membrane, typically made of biocompatible materials, to separate the gum tissue and the underlying bone. This membrane promotes the growth of specific cells that can regenerate lost tissue, allowing for the reconstruction of healthy gum and bone structures.
Gum grafting and Periodontal Plastic Surgery
Gum grafting is a procedure that involves the transfer of gum tissue from one area of your mouth to another. It is commonly performed to treat gum recession, where the gum tissue has pulled away from the teeth, exposing the tooth roots and compromising the stability of the teeth. Gum grafting helps restore gum tissue, protect the tooth roots, and improve gum health.
Crown lengthening
Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess gum tissue and, if necessary, bone to expose more of the tooth structure. It is commonly performed to address cases where there is insufficient tooth structure exposed for dental restorations, such as dental crowns or veneers. Crown lengthening creates a more visible and accessible tooth structure, allowing for effective placement of restorations and improving overall dental function.
Gingivectomy
A gingivectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess gum tissue that extends over the teeth, creating a “gummy smile” or causing functional issues. This procedure is commonly performed to address cosmetic concerns, improve oral hygiene, and treat certain periodontal conditions, such as gum disease.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal or alteration of a frenulum, which is a small fold of tissue that connects the lips, cheeks, or tongue to the underlying structures in the mouth. Frenectomies are commonly performed to address issues caused by abnormal frenula, such as speech difficulties, restricted movement, orthodontic challenges, and feeding difficulties in infants.
